Hello! We are the Hart family. Welcome to our website, Learning By Hart.

We're a family of four originally from Dorset, England, with two children (one of each) ages 8 and 5 at the time of writing in September 2025.

In the nomansland between Christmas and New Year 2023/4, we concluded that many aspects of our typical, highly mortgaged, two-income-kids-at-school lifestyle just weren't working for us.

It started with a major decision to exit the state-provided school system to try home education with our two children. You will be able to read more in our blog, but among other reasons, we felt that the curriculum was sadly neglected, outdated and irrelevant to educating our children in modern times.

This one major life decision caused a domino effect, causing our perspectives to change on so many other aspects of our lifestyle. We sold our house and committed to van life for a year (and counting...!), enabling us to spend more time travelling, and to widen our children's educational horizons, cultural exposures, and life experiences.

We sold a longstanding business that we built from the ground-up, and with it, we sacrificed a reliable income in exchange for a newfound freedom of time and movement. I started freelancing, my wife started writing, and we both continue to find our way forward day-by-day while educating both our kids (and ourselves to boot).

Here, we have created a space to document and share our journey, so that it might inspire, support, advise and encourage those of you who share our philosophy on living life to its fullest.
